Getting dressed for a weekend brunch
Let the venue and the rest of your day decide how relaxed the outfit should be.

Weekend brunch could mean a neighbourhood café after a walk, a hotel dining room or a long family gathering. The meal does not have its own universal dress code. Look at the setting, check any stated requirements, and think about what you will do before and afterwards. That gives you a more useful starting point than copying an elaborate restaurant outfit.
A café outfit that can keep moving
For a casual café, try straight jeans, an Oxford shirt and comfortable trainers. The collar adds a little definition without requiring tailoring. Wear the shirt untucked if its length and hem suit that; tuck it if it is long enough to bunch around your thighs. A light jacket makes sense if the plan includes an outdoor queue or a walk afterwards.
A knitted polo with chinos is another option when a shirt feels too familiar. Choose a collar that settles naturally rather than constantly folding under a jacket. The trousers need to be comfortable while seated, not just convincing in a standing photograph. Check the waistband after sitting for several minutes.
Adjust for a smarter setting
If the restaurant requests smarter clothes, use wool or cotton trousers, a neat knit or shirt, and loafers or lace-up shoes. A soft blazer may be useful, but only add it if you will enjoy wearing it at the table. You do not need a tie to make every breakfast reservation feel like an occasion.
Outdoor tables change the equation. A cold breeze can make a lightweight shirt an impractical choice, while full sun can make a heavy jumper uncomfortable. Use a removable layer and choose a bag large enough to hold it if necessary. Do not rely on the restaurant having somewhere to store a bulky coat.
Keep the finishing details suited to eating and sitting. Loose scarf ends, oversized cuffs and a bag that has to stay on your lap can become irritating. There is no need to avoid pale clothing, but choose it knowingly if you tend to worry about every spill. The best brunch outfit is one you stop thinking about once you arrive: appropriate to the place, comfortable for the table, and useful for the rest of the day.
