What to wear for an evening at the pub
A pub outfit can be relaxed without ignoring the setting, weather or journey home.

There is a large difference between a local pub after work, a countryside lunch that continues into the evening, and a busy city bar with entry rules. Before planning an outfit, establish which kind of place you are visiting. If it publishes a dress code, follow that rather than assuming every pub welcomes the same clothes.
For a typical relaxed evening, jeans or chinos, a casual shirt and familiar shoes are enough. A navy overshirt over a plain tee gives a similar level of ease with an extra removable layer. You can keep the whole outfit muted or add one colour in the shirt; there is no need to make every night out an all-black exercise.
Think about where the coat will go
A bulky coat can be awkward in a crowded room, but leaving it behind is not sensible if the journey home will be cold. Choose the layer you actually need and carry or store it considerately. A lightweight jacket is only a useful substitute when it provides enough protection for the weather.
Wear something underneath that works independently. A good jacket cannot compensate for a shirt that feels too tight once you sit down. Check the waistband and upper arms while seated, and make sure the shoes remain comfortable when standing for a while. An evening may involve more time at the bar or outside than you expect.
Keep the outfit manageable
Small bags and secure pockets are easier to deal with than a large work bag. Empty unnecessary receipts and bulky objects from your trousers so the fabric falls naturally. If you are arriving from the office, removing a tie or changing into a casual knit may be enough; a full spare outfit is usually unnecessary unless the circumstances demand it.
For a slightly smarter pub dinner, try dark trousers, a knitted polo and loafers or plain lace-ups. For a more casual local, a sweatshirt and jeans may be entirely appropriate. Clothing should respond to the place and company, not an imagined rule that evening always means tailoring. Finish with a quick condition check of cuffs, collar and shoes, then leave the outfit alone and enjoy the evening.
