Wearing knitwear without looking dressed for work
Change the companions and texture, not just the colour, to make a jumper feel relaxed.

A jumper can feel like office clothing because of what you repeatedly wear with it: a collared shirt, pressed trousers and formal shoes. The knit itself may be perfectly usable at the weekend. Change those surrounding pieces before deciding that you need an entirely separate casual knitwear collection.
Remove the office signals
Try a crew-neck jumper over a tee rather than a shirt. The absence of a collar immediately changes the neckline. Dark jeans and suede shoes create another shift away from a work uniform, while still looking deliberate. If a visible tee collar bothers you, choose one that sits beneath the jumper's neckline rather than tugging it down repeatedly.
A textured knit can also feel less businesslike than a fine, smooth one. Ribbing, a flecked yarn or a softer surface adds interest without a printed design. Pair it with relatively simple trousers so the different surfaces remain easy to read. Texture is not a guarantee of warmth, however; choose the actual garment for the conditions.
Let the proportions relax
A slightly roomier jumper with straight trousers can be comfortable without looking accidental. Check whether the ribbed hem sits on the waistband or hangs below it. If it gathers a large amount of fabric, try adjusting the trouser rise or choosing a less tightly ribbed hem. Sizing down is not always the solution, especially if the shoulders and arms already fit.
For a light outfit, combine an oatmeal knit with olive chinos and cream trainers. For a darker one, use a charcoal jumper, indigo jeans and brown boots. These are starting combinations, not seasonal uniforms; substitute pieces you own and judge them in daylight.
Outerwear changes the mood too. A denim jacket or casual field jacket moves the knit away from office tailoring. A long coat can still work, but a shirt, fine jumper, formal trousers and overcoat together may reproduce exactly the work appearance you wanted to leave behind.
Be realistic about care and activity. A delicate knit may not be the right choice for a day involving rough surfaces or tasks that snag fabric. Follow the label when washing and drying, and deal with visible wear appropriately. Casual dressing should make the garment easier to live in, not turn a fine jumper into something it was never designed to do.
